FINAL ELECTION RESULTS: 5 PARTIES ENTER BULGARIA’S 44TH PARLIAMENT

24 hours after the close of polls, the final results from of the 26th of March early parliamentary elections are ready with 100% votes counted, according to data of the Central Election Commissions.

None of the political forces secured enough support for a majority of the overall seats in Parliament.

The centre-right GERB won 32.65% of the votes followed by the centre-left BSP for Bulgaria with 27,20%; coalition United Patriots with 9,07%; the Movement for Rights and Freedoms with 8,99% and the new party in the future Parliament – Volya with 4,15%.

Three smaller right-wing formations remain below the 4% threshold for entering Parliament: coalition Reformist Bloc – People’s Voice; Yes, Bulgaria and New Republic. DOST and coalition ABC – Movement 21 also did not pass the 4% threshold and will not have MPs in the Parliament.

In terms of votes, GERB won the support of 1,147,000 voters; BSP won a little more than 955,000 votes.

86,411 people chose the “None of the above” option.

GERB will have the largest number of seats in Parliament – 95, BSP will have 80, the Uniter Patriots will have 27, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms will have 27 and Volya enters Parliament with 12.

Compared to the 2014 early parliamentary elections, GERB will have by 12 more seats, MRF’s seats have decreased by 12 and the Unites Patriots will have 3 seats less. The party with the largest increase in the number of seats in Parliament is the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) which will have by 40 MPs more compared to 3 years ago.

The 44th Bulgarian Parliament will not have independent MPs as none of the independent candidates managed to get more than 0,1% of the votes.

Voter turnout was 54%, which is higher in comparison w ith the 5th of October 2014 early parliamentary elections.
