IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on BNT: IMF will support the countries affected by the conflict in the Middle East

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will support countries affected by the conflict in the Middle East, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva told BNT on October 1. In her words, the tensions in the Middle East will have another negative impact on the world economy, but at the moment there is no serious global impact. However, there is economic damage for the countries involved in the conflict and their neighbours.

"Purely human basis, a huge tragedy, so many lives are being lost, so many destinies are destroyed and the political will to end this tragedy is not yet in sight," said Kristalina Georgieva.

"During the UN meeting in New York last week, I had the opportunity to speak with some of the leaders in the region, including the King of Jordan, and what I am hearing from them is of great concern."

"We provide assistance to the countries that are directly affected, that's what we're doing with significant programmes in Jordan and Egypt. This stabilizes the economies of the affected countries and leads to improvement of the investment climate and helps them cope with the shock that this war causes."
