New stricter penalties for road traffic violations have come into force.
On 20th of February, the head of traffic police, Boiko Ranovski, told BNT morning programme that the latest changes to the law on road traffic provided for significantly increased pelanlties for speeding. For speeding of 30 km/h and more above the maximum allowed speed, the fines will be twice as high.
New harsher sanctions have been introduced for driving in the opposite lane on motorways, high speed roads.
The law also envisages sanctions for people who are involved in or organize illegal races on the roads.
New penalties are introduced for drivers who drive under influence of alcohol, narcotic substances or unlicensed.
