Parents of Children with Disabilities Staged a Protest outside Parliament

Fifth national protest of parents of children with disabilities was held outside the building of the Bulgarian Parliament on 17^th of May.

This year’s protest included larger number of people and more demands from parents, without having progress on previously long-discussed problems.

In front of BNT reporter Maria Cherneva, one of the protesting mothers accused the state of not paying enough attention to people's demands.

According to her, the system is not being reformed because it is convenient for siphoning off the budget. She said that there were more than 500,000 families affected by that.

On 16^th of May, a meeting was held in the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy with representatives of the organizations of people with disabilities to discuss many issues. Their requests and everything that was stated on the protest today will be accepted, minister Bisser Petkov said earlier today. We will move towards individualised support for the people with disabilities, he added.
