“From all political parties, GERB performed best at the first round of the Presidential elections. All the rest are in coalitions, nomination committees, hidden behind whatnot. GERB played fair with a candidate, who is ours," Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said in the election night press conference on 7th of November, a few hours after exit polls.
He described the campaign of GERB’s candidate, Tsetska Tsacheva and her running mate Plamen Manushev as quite good.
To the question about whether Borissov would follow through on previous statements about his government resigning if GERB did not score victory at the first round of the Presidential elections, Borissov said that "if we lose in the runoff, we will leave government". "We cannot resign in the week before the second round, we have not lost. I have not wavered from my words, but I do not want to create a cacophony for a week in the Parliament. We have not lost yet. There is a second round and we will speak about resignations after that." he added.
Given the narrow difference between the socialist-backed general Rumen Radev and GERB’s candidate Tsetska Tsacheva, GERB has a real chance of winning the second round on 13th of November, Borissov said. He added that for the runoff, GERB would seek the support of all voters and mostly those who would not have a candidate in the runoff.
Tsetska Tsacheva, GERB’s Presidential Candidate said that it was very important the young people to exercise their right to vote in the second round of the presidential elections. “I appeal to all who do not want the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Right and Freedoms to build the future of the Bulgarian nation. Young people are our natural environment. They are important because we are orientated towards business development," she said.
