Protesters against ‘electoral tourism’ blocked the traffic at three check points at Bulgaria’s border with Turkey on 24th of March (Kapitan Andreevo, Lesovo and Malkotturnovo), in an attempt to stop buses carrying Bulgarian passport-holders living Turkey from coming to Bulgaria to vote in the early parliamentary elections.
However, passengers got off the buses and walked across the border. Some even showed campaigning materials given to them upon getting on the buses.
The blockade is expected to continue until 23:00 on the election day, Sunday, 26th of March.
There was increased police presence and gendarmerie at the border crossings.
The blockade was lifted about 16:00 after interference of the police.
