Radan Kanev resigned as leader of the coalition New Republic and as leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) party, a constituent member of New Republic. He congratulated GERB on the election victory and wished them to have the courage to change things for the better.
Speaking at a press conference on 27th of March, he thanked the people who voted for the coalition. He did not hide his disappointment from the weak result at the elections. “We did not achieve our goal to be in Parliament. We congratulate GERB on the political victory. This does not cancel the differences between us,“ he said. “No doubt, the fact that BSP will not govern is good news for Bulgaria. The weak result of nationalists and populists is also good news,“ he said.
“I have already resigned as leader of the New Republic and will resign as leader of DSB. I will not leave the Bulgarian politics. I think that politically it is very important to preserve New Republic because in the recent campaign we raised questions that no one else dared to raise. Our programme was very brave in view of the results. I believe that in future the right wing will get united.”, he noted.
