They demanded an end to the corrupt governance model of Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov
A spontaneously organised protest on social media brought dozens of Bulgarians to the iconic Trafalgar Square in the British capital on December 10.
Demonstrators called for an end to what they described as the corrupt governance model associated with Delyan Peevski (leader of Movement for Rights and Freedoms) and Boyko Borisov (leader of GERB), saying this was essential for Bulgaria to become a normal country to which they could return.
With chants of “Bulgarians, be brave!” they expressed solidarity with the protesters in Bulgaria.
“I want to be in Bulgaria, to be with my family and friends, but because of this government I’ve spent almost nine years in England. And things aren’t getting better. I think it’s important to make our civic voice heard. Even though we can’t be in Bulgaria, we’re doing it here.”
— What are you hoping for?
“For better politics, better laws for Bulgarians. Everything better for Bulgaria.”
“What brought us to this protest is the captured state and the need to take our country back. No to the mafia, no to the theft, no to the absence of justice. We want to become a normal European country.”
