This evening, December 10, protests are taking place in various cities across Bulgaria against the current government and calling for the adoption of the 2026 budget with a fair distribution of state funds.

The demonstrations also call for the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s government. In Sofia, the main protest is being held at the “Triangle of Power” and in front of the Bulgarian National Bank.

To avoid disorder, organisers from “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” (WCC-DB) announced that no marches through the city streets are planned.

Earlier today, the Bulgarian Parliament also debated the government’s sixth no-confidence vote, requested by WCC-DB. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow, December 11.

The protesters say they want the resignation of the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov, they are of the opinion that this cabinet is run by Borissov (leader of GERB) and Peevski (leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms).

The date of the protest was not chosen by chance - it is in connection with the sixth vote of no confidence in the cabinet.

The organisers hope this protest will be even larger than the one held last week.

Among the protest props, a pink piggy bank appeared alongside a yellow sofa labelled “Divan, Divan,” referencing politician Bayram Bayram.

WCC-DB also called on 'There is Such a People' leader Slavi Trifonov to withdraw his support from the government.

What messages did the protesters send?

"What I want to say is not to politicians, but to all young people who live abroad and in Bulgaria. Do not give up. I am 30 years old and I have been hearing for 30 years how the transition will be long. It shouldn't be any longer because other countries are doing miracles in five years."

"The budget that was passed and returned, and we don't know what budget we will have next year. It cruelly disadvantages professionals in many fields, like scientists and medical workers."

"Millions a month should not go to them and Peevski's guards should go."

"I'm here for the resignation of the government that's my goal and the people here."

"I've been involved in a modern circus for the last 15 years."

Does it offend you to be compared to a circus when talking about parliament?

No, it doesn't offend me. It is perfectly normal all over the world, but there is a new circus emerging at the moment. A new beginning in the circus that disgusts me.

Asen Vasilev:
“Change will first come with the resignation of this government. After that, we must safeguard the elections, just as we did in Pazardzhik.”

Ivaylo Mirchev:
“Borisov should come and ask the people in the square, not watch Real Madrid. He should ask whether he should resign on 1 January or immediately. I will tell him the answer. Watching the MPs from GERB and ‘MRF-New Beginning,’ they should resign immediately. The energy here is incredible, so many people. This is not a party protest. People are angry at the corrupt government.”

The end of the protest was put at 21.20.
