The number of patients with the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus is increasing, the manager of the Specialized Lung Disease Hospital in Veliko Turnovo, Dr. Stella Dencheva, said on January 13.
Dr. Dencheva summarised that an increase in morbidity in hospital and pre-hospital care has been observed since last week, with many young people, children and students among those infected.
According to her, most come to the hospital in a deteriorated condition or get worse very quickly. One of the reasons is that the rapid antigen tests may not reliably detect the new strain and show a false negative result, and people delay treatment.
Currently, the capacity of the Covid sector of 20 beds in the hospital is almost fully occupied. Yesterday and today patients were referred to the intensive care unit of the district hospital in the city.
