The centre-right Reformist Bloc (RB), a junior partner in the Bulgarian coalition government, will support Tsetska Tsacheva, the candidate of the main ruling party GERB, in the second round of the Presidential elections, a co-chair of the RB, Bozhidar Lukarski announced following a meeting with GERB’s candidate Tsetska Tsacheva on7th of November.
The parties from the Reformist Bloc, except Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party, confirmed their support for Tsetska Tsacheva in the second round of the Presidential elections. Tsacheva accompanied by ministers of the current cabinet went personally to the headquarters of the RB to ask for the support.
The Reformists Bloc’s candidate, Traicho Traikov and the Leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, Radan Kanev, did not attend the meeting. Kanev issued a statement on 6th of November that his party DSB would not support anyone in the runoff and that the party would start preparation for early parliamentary elections. To the question whether DSB would be ‘in” or “out” of the Reformist Bloc, Lukarski said this would be decided after the second round of the Presidential elections.
He said the Reformist Bloc would firmly back Tsetska Tsacheva in the runoff. The party which toppled down the communists from power would not act to return them to power.
Tsetska Tsacheva, GERB’s candidate said it was natural to be where the leaders of the Bulgarians who supported the right-wing values were and that this was the Euro-Atlantic orientation of Bulgaria. “Our presidential pair will be a guarantor for the preservation of the European Development of Bulgaria, as well as our membership in NATO, by modernizing the professional Bulgarian army,” she said.
