The University of Sofia opposed the abolition of fees for undergraduate and postgraduate students. They insist that the draft amendment to the Higher Education Act should not be tabled, but that discussions on the Higher Education Development Strategy should begin.
They call for a return to the reform started 10 years ago and a change in the financial model that includes incentives for quality.
The University of Sofia calls on the executive and Parliament to abandon superficial populist solutions and start a broad discussion to find the best way forward for higher education.
The university also wrote that no one consulted them about these serious changes, even when they were announced by their colleagues as politicians.
The position was adopted unanimously by the Academic Council of Sofia University.
