All customs and border police officers detained during an anti-corruption operation at Kapitan Andreevo border crossing at the end of September have been released. Haskovo district court ruled on 23rd of November to release the remaining six suspects who had been in custody.
The sitting was held at the request of the three border police and three customs officers who demanded lighter supervision measures. According to their defence lawyers, the border police and the customs officers were for more than 2 months in custody and larger part of the investigation was carried out. In addition to that, they have already been removed from their jobs and cannot hamper the further investigation. The defence also said that two of the detained had sick family members who they had to care for.
