UTILITY POLE FELL IN A STREET IN SOFIA, NO ONE WAS INJURED

A pole of the public transport operator Electrotransport fell in Rakovski street in Sofia on 20th of March. No one was injured in the incident. A car was damaged.

The incident occurred at midday near a bus stop in the centre of Sofia where the traffic is busy.

The driver said he could see the pole coming down but could not stop the car on time and passed through it, which caused damage to the undercarriage.

A representative of the public transport operator explained that the reason for the incident was a partial corrosion at the base of the pole. He added that most of the poles were placed in the 90ties of the past century. Ëlectrotransport” is responsible for about 10,000 such utility poles in Sofia. Their condition is checked twice a year.

He said that temporarily until a new pole was put in place, the overhead lines will be supplied with power from a nearby residential building.
