A total of 21 formations (14 parties and 7 coalitions) are taking part in the fifth early parliamentary elections in the past two years. Which are they - in the order they appear on the ballot paper.
"BSP FOR BULGARIA" - NO 1
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is the successor of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, founded in 1891, which became the Bulgarian Workers' Social Democratic Party in 1903. The leader of the BSP is Kornelia Ninova. "BSP for Bulgaria” is a coalition between the BSP and the “Confederation of Public Organizations of Security and Defense”, the “Union for the Motherland”, the “Movement of Social Humanism”, “Bulgarian Spring” and the “New Dawn”. In the previous parliamentary elections (October 2, 2022), the coalition became the fifth political force with 9.3% or 232,958 votes.
"GERB - UDF" - № 2
The political party GERB was established in 2006 on the initiative of the then mayor of Sofia Boyko Borisov, on the basis of the civic association "Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria" established earlier that year. GERB ruled between 2009 and 2021 with a one-year break. Since 2019, GERB is standing for election in coalition with the Union for Democratic Forces (UDF). The Union of Democratic Forces was established in 1989 as a coalition of NGOs and parties. It registered as a party in 1998. In the previous parliamentary elections in October 2022, the "GERB-UDF" coalition came first with 25.33% of the voters’ support or 634,627 votes.
"VAZRAZHDANE" (Revival) - NO 3
The political party "Vazrazhdane" was established in 2014. Its founder and leader is Kostadin Kostadinov, a former activist of IMRO-BNM. The party defines itself as a patriotic organisation. At the last parliamentary elections (October 2) "Vazrazhdane" was the fourth largest political force, with 10.18% or 254 952 votes.
"THERE IS SUCH A PEOPLE" - NO. 4
The political party "There is Such a People" was registered in 2020. Its leader is the TV presenter and singer Slavi Trifonov. The party emerged as a consequence of the referendum on majority elections held in 2016. Initially, the idea was to name the party "There is No Such State", but the court refused to register it with this name. TISP won the July 2021 parliamentary elections, then was part of the ruling coalition of the Petkov cabinet. In the previous election in October 2022, TISP did not pass the 4% electoral threshold and did not secure representation in Parliament as it won 3.83% of the voters’ support or 96,071 votes.
“PEOPLE'S PARTY THE TRUTH AND ONLY THE TRUTH" - NO. 5
The People's Party "The Truth and Only the Truth" was founded in 2020. Its chairman is Ventsislav Angelov. The party is against Covid-19 vaccines. In the parliamentary elections in October 2022, the party won 0.10% or 2,522 votes.
"COALITION NEUTRAL BULGARIA" - № 6
The "Neutral Bulgaria" coalition includes the political parties "Ataka", led by Volen Siderov, "Bulgarian Communist Party", "Party of Bulgarian Communists" and "Russophiles for the Revival of the Fatherland". “Ataka” party was established in 2005 and is a parliamentary force until April 2021. In the last parliamentary elections in October 2022 it won 0.3% or 7,593 votes. It now stands in a coalition.
"BULGARIAN NATIONAL ALLIANCE" - NO 7
The “Bulgarian National Alliance” party was registered in 2014. Its leader is Georgi Georgiev-Gotti. BNU participated in several parliamentary elections. In February 2021 the party became a mandate holder and submitted its lists for the parliamentary elections in April to the Civic Platform "Bulgarian Summer", which was founded by businessman Vasil Bozhkov. It won 0.07% or 1,671 votes in the October 2022 elections.
"TOGETHER" - NO. 8
The "Together" coalition includes the "Party of the Greens" , the "Social Democratic Party, Fair Bulgaria United Patriots" and the "Movement of Non-Party Candidates". The coalition is the project of the two TISP defectors, Iva Miteva and Lyubomir Karimanski.
"BULGARIAN NATIONAL UNION - NEW DEMOCRACY - NO 9
The political party "Bulgarian National Union - New Democracy" was founded in 1990. Its chairman is Boyan Rasate. For the first time under his leadership, the party stood for parliamentary elections in 2014. In the previous elections, the party received 0.07% or 1,849 votes.
"NATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR STABILITY AND PROGRESS (NDSV)- NO 10
The NDSV party was founded in 2002 by Bulgaria's former monarch Simeon II. It was originally called the National Movement "Simeon II". NDSV participated in the government between 2001 and 2009. The party's name was changed to "National Movement for Stability and Progress” in 2007. Currently, the chairman of the party is Stanimir Ilchev. NDSV did not participate in the previous elections.
"CONSERVATIVE ALLIANCE OF THE RIGHT" - № 11
Political party "Conservative Union of the Right" was established in 2019 by former Minister of Health Petar Moskov and former members of the “Democrats for Strong Bulgaria” (DSB). Moskov split from the then existing Reformist Bloc. In the parliamentary elections in October 2022, the party won 0.2% or 5,028 votes.
“WE CONTINUE THE CHANGE - DEMOCRATIC BULGARIA" - № 12
The coalition "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" was created for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The political party "We Continue the Change" was established in 2021 with leaders Kiril Petkov and Assen Vassilev. A coalition with the same name "We Continue the Change", which also included the parties VOLT and "Middle European Class", won the elections in November 2021. The government headed by Kiril Petkov ruled from December 2021 to June 2022. The “Democratic Bulgaria” alliance was established in 2018 and includes the parties “Yes Bulgaria” led by Hristo Ivanov, “Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria” led by Atanas Atanasov, and “Green Movement” led by Vladislav Panev and Dobromira Kostova. In the last elections, the coalition "We Continue the Change" won 20.20% or 506,099 votes, and the coalition "Democratic Bulgaria" - 7.45% or 186,528 votes.
"MOVEMENT FOR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS" - №13
The political party "Movement for Rights and Freedoms" was established in 1990. The first chairman of the party is Ahmed Dogan. It is currently led by Mustafa Karadayi, and Dogan is honorary chairman. The party has participated in every National Assembly since 1990. In the last parliamentary elections, the MRF was the third political force with 13.75% or 344 512 votes.
"THE LEFT" - NO. 14
The new coalition "The Left!" unites the parties ABV with leader Rumen Petkov , "Rise Up, BG" with leader Maya Manolova , "Movement 21" with leader Tatyana Doncheva and the Agricultural Union "Alexander Stamboliiski ". The coalition also includes former BSP members such as Valery Zhablyanov.
"BULGARIA ASCENDING" - № 15
The political party "Bulgaria Ascending" was established in 2022. Its leader is former caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev. The activists of the party include the former caretaker minister of regional development Violeta Komitova. In the last elections, the party entered Parliament as the seventh political force with 4.63% or 115,872 votes.
"MIR" - № 16
Political party MIR (Morality, Initiative, Patriotism) was established in 2018 by an initiative committee of public figures, scientists, intellectuals. Its chairman is Simeon Slavchev. At the last parliamentary elections the party won 0.18% or 4,536 votes.
"BULGARIAN SOCIAL DEMOCRACY - EUROLEFT" - № 17
The political party "Bulgarian Social Democracy - Euroleft" was founded in 1997. The Civic Union for the Republic grew into a party under the name "Bulgarian Euroleft". Alexander Tomov is the leader. After the 1997 elections, for the first time in 52 years, a Bulgarian Social Democratic Party became part of the Parliament. In the last elections the party had 0.21% of the vote or 5,343 votes.
"BULGARIAN UNION FOR DIRECT DEMOCRACY - NO 18
The political party "Bulgarian Union for Direct Democracy" was established in 2015. Its initiator and co-chairman is Georgi Nedelchev. At the last elections the party won 0,23% or 5,874 votes.
"PEOPLE'S VOICE" - № 19
The political party "People’s Voice" was founded in 2013 by Svetoslav Vitkov, musician from the "Hippodil". Band. In the 2013 and 2014 parliamentary elections, it won over 1% of the vote. In the last elections in October 2022, the party had 0.25% or 6,197 votes.
"SOCIALIST PARTY "BULGARIAN WAY" - № 20
Socialist Party "Bulgarian Way" was founded in 2001 by Angel Dimov, who left BSP in 2000 due to disagreement with its leadership. The party did not take part in the last elections.
"OUT OF THE EU AND THE NATO" - NO 21
Coalition "Out of the EU and NATO" is a new coalition established to participate in the April 2 parliamentary elections. It is represented by Svetozar Suev and Georgi Manolov. The political parties participating in it are: KOI, BTR, NATION, PODEM, BSRP.
