A 33-year-old woman, who had given birth, died of coronavirus at a hospital in Blagoevgrad (South Bulgaria) on December 1. The young woman was admitted to the maternity ward with proven COVID-19 infection.
The baby was delivered by caesarean operation. After that, however, the woman's condition deteriorated and she was transferred to intensive care.
Unfortunately, she died, said the director of the hospital in Blagoevgrad, Ognyan Mitev. He was adamant that the woman had died from complications caused by the coronavirus.
The hospital did not specify whether the baby was tested for coronavirus.
A few months ago, a separate department for women in labour with COVID-19 was set up at the city hospital, which is separated from other expectant mothers.
