Atanas Atanasov of WCC-DB attacks the President by alleging that he influences the security services

The war between institutions continues. On BNT on January 31, the co-chairman of “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” (WCC-DB), Atanas Atanasov, attacked President Rumen Radev by alleging that he influences the security services, which are under his purview.

He revealed a scheme for granting Bulgarian citizenship to Russians and warned of leaks of classified information that the services are covering up.

The main argument of the co-chairman of WCC-DB is that the heads of these services were appointed by the President on the proposal of caretaker cabinets that Rumen Radev himself formed.

Atanasov gave examples of cases which, according to him, were failed by the SANS and thus crimes that were committed by those close to the President were covered up.

Thus, Atanasov once again defended the demand of WCC-DB alliance fon for reform of the security services and personnel changes at their top.

Atanas Atanasov claimed that during the caretaker governments formed by President Rumen Radev, corruption schemes were created to fill the black coffers.

However, he says, most of the structures in the state that are supposed to investigate these schemes are headed by people appointed by the head of state at the suggestion of the caretaker governments he formed.

"We see that the security services are carrying out what comes as an order from the presidency and therein comes the problem that certain circumstances are being covered up, which are related to actions by people close to the President," said Atanas Atanasov.

Atanasov cited a file in the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office concerning a leak of sensitive information.

"Number 20869 from last year, which was terminated by prosecutor Nikolova, I don't know who this woman is. And the data inside is striking, and there is a breach in the national security through the State Intelligence Agency (SIA)”. That's why a SANS check was commissioned, which the counterintelligence have glossed over and covered up. This is about leaking classified information and exposing intelligence officials, which is a very serious failure," Atanas Atanasov added.

He also claims that the investigation carried out by SANS on this case was superficial and thus everything was covered up so that the case was closed by the Prosecutor's office and no criminal proceedings were initiated. He gave another example.

"There are very severe tensions in connection with granting Bulgarian citizenship. There is some mythical person who is dealing with this. His name is Gleb Mishin, who is Ukrainian by birth, but I think he is Russian. Who provides a whole cavalcade of people of Russian origin who get Bulgarian citizenship. He has an office in Moscow," Atanas Atanasov added.

"SANS has been referred to regarding this case. There are specific data about money being distributed, the people who receive it and how much they receive. The point is something else, they say to me: 'We have several times referred to SANS about the violations committed by their employees, because the main activity of verifying the authenticity of the documents and the Bulgarian origin of these persons is a responsibility of SANS and they tell us: ‘We have operational interests, do not interfere with us,’ he said.

“This is a channel for infiltrating people from Russia's intelligence services in Europe. You know that citizenship is granted by decree of the Vice President. It is alleged that in this case a part of the money that is collected goes in this direction," Atanas Atanasov said.

SANS has so far not commented on Atanasov's allegations.
