Bulgaria’s Energy Minister, Temenuzhka Petkova, said she supported the decision of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) on the new electricity prices, in force as of 1st of August. In an interview for the Bulgarian National Television on 3rd of August, she noted that the decision of the regulator was balanced and there were no reasons to doubt the competency of EWRC.
Minister Petkova added that there was no tension between the government and the employers, which expressed dissatisfaction over the increased electricity prices. The business and the trade unions are preparing another protest in September because of the increase of “obligation to society” surcharge for the consumers of industrial electricity. According to employers’ organizations the price hike is fair and would not lead to drastic increase in the prices of other goods.
