Bulgaria marked the World Thalassaemia Day (May 8th) with a large-scale blood donation campaign across the country.
The genetic blood condition affects the production of haemoglobin, the oxygen carrying component in red blood cells and leads to severe anaemia. Patients therefore need blood transfusions every 2 to 5 weeks.
