Speaking at the opening of the Sixth European Forum on Social Entrepreneurship in Plovdiv on 30th of March, Bulgaria’s President Roumen Rade, thanked everyone involved in the early parliamentary elections and said they did a great job. He added the elections were conducted normally and every Bulgarian had the opportunity to freely cast their vote.
As regards the consultations for forming a new government Radev said the National Assembly should be convened before that. He specified that this was possible to happen earlier, before the expiry of the deadline of one month after the elections.
Radev said that it was most likely that there would be some type of coalition, which according to him meant compromises.
He said that he did not want to pressure the parties, because these would be serious compromises and the parties should carefully consider the meaning and cost of such compromises, and under no circumstances create potentially serious problems for the future.
Radev declined to comment on what the best option for acoalition would be by stating that he did not want to influence. He reminded that under the Constitution, the President makes consultations with the parties, but did not form coalitions and added that this was a commitment of the parties.
He said he hoped the government that would be formed after the elections would be one of national purpose and unity.
