After the consultations with President Roumen Radev on 25th of April for mandate for new cabinet, the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP for Bulgaria), Kornelia Ninova, told journalists that BSP for Bulgaria had confirmed to the President that they would be an opposition party in the 44th National Assembly and would be an alternative to the GERB and the United Patriots' governance programme, if they formed a government."BSP for Bulgaria" have offered President Radev to convene a Consultative Council for National Security on the topics of demographic catastrophes and poverty and he has accepted.
"We will not relinquish our pre-election commitments," Ninova said. She said the BSP’s assessment of the programme of GERB and the United Patriots was "a serious retreat from their pre-election commitments" and stressed that they were particularly worried about two issues - demographic crisis, poverty and income.
Amidts rising prices, increasising cost of living and the worrying statistics that came today both from Eurostat and Bulgaria’s NSI that 2.5 million Bulgarians live in material deprivation, the BSP has put the issue of poverty and income seriously.
Ninova said that GERB and United Patriots had given up their intention to make the minimum pension BGN 300 as well as to increase incomes. "That is why we have proposed to President Radev to convene a Consultative Council for National Security on topics of demographic catastrophe and poverty," the BSP leader said.
"For us, national consensus should be sought on domestic issues such as the demographic catastrophe and the impoverishment of the Bulgarian citizens. On foreign affairs themes, we will also seek and support national consensus on the topics of national security and Bulgaria’s EU presidency, " she aded.
