The European Commission has announced the winners of the 2023 New European Bauhaus Awards.
There are 15 winners in their categories out of 61 finalists.
The Bulgarian project “Danube Design Lab”, implemented by the Collective Foundation, won first prize in the New European Champions in Education strand in the category "Prioritising the places and people that need it the most". It was awarded for the opportunities it provides for disadvantaged young people to use their skills and turn the riverbank area in Rousse into an attractive, accessible and inclusive place for social and cultural initiatives. The project brings together citizens, experts and institutions actively working to improve the urban environment and life in Bulgaria.
The project "RELAUNCHTOWIN" by a team from Bourgas was awarded in the category "Regeneration of urban spaces". The project envisages activities to improve the urban environment with a focus on the Mladost sports hall, which will be completely renovated and turned into a modern centre for sports and healthy living. It will provide facilities for all residents and guests of Bourgas, of all ages and with different needs, in order to preserve the local culture and traditions in the city and the region. The project period is 3 years and 6 months and the budget is EUR 5,634,340.
The winners will receive a cash prize of up to €30,000 and a set of communication materials to support the development and promotion of their future projects and concepts.
