Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Health, Dr. Galya Kondeva, issued a new order banning the export of insulins and analogues and other blood sugar-lowering drugs. Antibiotics intended for systemic use in childhood will also not be exported for another month.

The Ministry of Health specified that the data of the Executive Agency for Medicines and Regional Health Inspectorates show a continuing trend of irregular deliveries, delays or refusal from the warehouses of wholesalers, which leads to difficulties in the supply of both pharmacies and patients with the said medicinal products.

The Ministry of Health added that the purpose of extending the export ban is to ensure a sufficient supply of these medicinal products needed for the treatment of Bulgarian patients, to protect their health and ensure continuity of their drug therapy.

The new order is effective from 20 September until 21 October August 2024.

On 17 June this year, the caretaker Minister of Health, Dr Galya Kondeva, issued an order banning the export of insulins and analogues, as well as other blood sugar-lowering drugs and antibiotics intended for systemic use in childhood.
