The Sofia Municipality ordered additional street washing due to reported exceedances of fine particulate matter. The measure is part of the municipality's ongoing efforts to curb secondary pollution caused by accumulated dust and litter on the road network, the municipality's press centre said on December 11.
Today, two monitoring stations in Sofia recorded FPM concentrations above the permitted limits.
The municipality has sent up-to-date information and specific recommendations to the directors of all schools and kindergartens across the city.
From 1 December 2025, the low-emission zone for vehicles is once again in effect. This year, it has been expanded to include the so-called “large ring” area.
The Sofia Municipality is calling on citizens to act responsibly and follow recommendations to reduce pollution, including limiting the use of private cars and avoiding the burning of low-quality fuels.
