Grain transporters blocked the road to Kulata border crossing as a sign of protest on March 14. A kilometre-long queue of lorries carrying other goods has formed at the checkpoint.
The reason for the discontent is the thorough checks of the grain transporting lorries. According to the drivers, an inspection takes about an hour, sometimes longer.
At the moment, there are about 100 lorries with grain waiting to be checked at the checkpoint and in one of the parking lots nearby. Some of them said they have been waiting for the second day. This is causing a number of inconveniences to the drivers as they are missing their delivery times and the conditions under which they are waiting are poor because there are no sanitary facilities nearby.
The drivers have been demanding some clarity about the export of grain as it is not currently banned by order. They are also demanding that the organisation of the checks be improved so that they do not have to wait for days at the checkpoint.
Currently, traffic is blocked in the lane in the direction towards Greece. Crossing the border from Greece to Bulgaria remains normal.
