The cleaning of the spilled petrol near “Dolno Ezerovo” suburb in the Bulgarian black sea city of bourgas is going on.
On 19th of June, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Environment and Waters fined Lukoil Neftochim 100,000 BGN for the spill.
The sanction was imposed to the company for allowing contamination and violation of the complex permit.
The Regional inspection on Environment and Waters in Bourgas will hand a statement of offence, on the basis of which a penal ruling will be issued. In addition, guidelines and recommendations for dealing with all damages will be issued.
These will include the cleaning of polluted grounds, ensuring additional measures for control through increased security, as well as video monitoring along the route of the product pipelines.
If dead birds or mammals of protected species are found during a later inspection by Bourgas Regional Inspection on Environment and Waters Inspectorate in Bourgas, the refinery will be subject to further fines under the Law on Biological Diversity.
