Minister of Interior replaced police chiefs in Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik and Plovdiv (update)

New directors of the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior in Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik and Plovdiv have been appointed by orders of the Minister of Interior, Kalin Stoyanov, on August 11.

The police chief in Burgas is leaving the system and it is not yet clear who will take his post. The resignations of the directors of seven other regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior - Dobrich, Gabrovo, Lovech, Pleven, Smolyan, Targovishte and Vratsa - have been requested.

Minister Kalin Stoyanov denied the accusations of his predecessor Ivan Demerdzhiev that a purge was underway in the Ministry of Interior. It is a practice that when the political leadership of the Ministry of Interior is changed, many of the directors of directorates general and regional structures are also changed. Usually this happens in the first weeks of the new ministers' term, no matter whether they were people from the system or people from outside the Ministry of Interior. The Minister of Interior explained today that the decision for the replacements of regional chiefs was taken after an analysis of the work in the different regional directorates.

The Minister of Interior motivated the replacement of some of the directors of the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior with the fact that he wants to work with people he trusts.

"I categorically state that there is no purge in the Ministry of Interior. I confirm the words of the Prime Minister, namely that the Minister of the Interior has his powers to select the team of employees he will work with," Kalin Stoyanov said.

Daniel Dimitrov will be the new police chief in Blagoevgrad. He is the former head of the territorial unit of the directorate for combatting organised crime in Kyustendil. Daniel Lukov, former Head of the Department for Combating Organised Crime, will be the new head of the regional directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Pazardzhik. Both of them worked side by side with Kalin Stoyanov when he was the director of the General Directorate for Fighting Organised Crime.

"Where there will be changes, I put people I trust in the first place and I think they will do much better than the current chiefs. This is the choice of the team I will work with," said Kalin Stoyanov.

The director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Burgas, is leaving the post, as well as the system of the Ministry of Interior.

He explained that his decision to leave the post is after a conversation with the leadership of the Ministry of Interior.

"This is my decision after yesterday's conversation with the management of the Ministry of Interior. I will only say that not a single word was mentioned in the conversation regarding results, achievements, successes or failures. I do not want to comment on the rest of the conversation," said Kaloyan Kaloyanov, outgoing director of the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.

For the time being, the head of the Criminal Police in the seaside city, Emil Pavlov, will temporarily be the acting director of the Regional Directorate in Burgas. In Varna, the current director Atanas Mihov hands over the baton to his deputy Andrei Angelov. The Minister of Interior also commented that all changes are made after an analysis of the work and the results that have been achieved.

"I am simply not satisfied with their work and I believe that there are other employees who will do better than them in these positions," the minister said.

The outgoing police chiefs who are not leaving the system of the Ministry of Interior will be assigned to the analytical unit that assists the management of the Ministry of Interior.
