Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and UNICEF launched a campaign for inclusion and education of vulnerable children
Over 16,000 children and 10,000 parents from 10 municipalities in Bourgas, Sliven and Stara Zagora received access to foster care for pregnant women and families with young children, early childhood intervention, inclusive preschool education and prevention and support services.
The 3-year European Child Guarantee pilot programme aims to ensure equal access to key services for the most vulnerable children.
The UNICEF and Social Ministry programme focuses on children with disabilities and developmental difficulties, children from families in vulnerable situations. The final conference also revealed that one in four children in the European Union is at risk of poverty or social exclusion.
"We certainly need to pay more attention to them, precisely because they are different. We have to be the support of these children in their lives, we, the 'normals', have to be the people who show them that being different physically and not only, does not make them less competent than us, on the contrary," said Vayana Dimitrova, UNICEF Youth Engagement.
"When it comes to children, everything should come from the heart, they should always come first, they should receive the most resources from the budget, they should be at the heart of public policy," added Philip Corey, UNICEF Deputy Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia.
