Bulgaria is already a gas distribution centre with 100% state-owned infrastructure, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on March 29 during an inspection of the Chiren gas storage facility and Lozenets compressor station.
Today, the Prime Minister examined two key projects for Bulgaria's energy independence.

With the expansion of the Chiren gas storage facility, it will be able to store 1 billion cubic metres of gas.

"This is the interconnector with Greece. When a tanker arrives, not matter from where - whether it is American liquefied gas, Cypriot, Turkish, Greek, Egyptian, Israeli, it must be stored somewhere," the PM explained.

In addition to storing, Bulgaria will transit gas from all directions to all directions, including the "Balkan Stream".
"The capacity of these facilities is 60-70 years. Children who have not been born yet, will receive transit fees in the future and the country will become richer," Borissov added.
With the expansion of the underground gas storage Chiren, we will store huge amounts of natural gas.
All of this is key to the Three Seas Initiative.
"17 new-generation American compressors, state-of-the-art and most expensive," he added.

Next week, 6 km of the 16.5 km section under repair from Trakia motorway will be opened.
"Within three or four days the last layer will be put on the road, the crash barriers will be put in place. Everything is new – crash barriers, nets, ditches.. everything is brand new," Borissov said.
Within a week, the section of Trakia Motorway near Chirpan will be launched
The remaining 10 kilometres, which are being rehabilitated, will be ready after mid-April.
