"I have always believed that solutions can be found at the negotiating table. The current and future generations will not forgive either Bulgaria or the Republic of North Macedonia if we do not find a compromise that would give perspective," Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said during his meeting on December 10 with the special envoy of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia for Bulgaria Vlado Buckovski.
In order to find a sustainable and lasting solution to the remaining open issues in bilateral relations, according to the Prime Minister, a pragmatic, frank and well-intentioned approach is needed, expressed in specific actions.
Prime Minister Boyko Borissov pointed out that it is important for the relations of mutual trust to return to strict and irreversible fulfilment of all commitments under the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation, signed in 2017.
"Bulgaria has always supported the Euro-Atlantic values, which is why during the country's presidency of the Council of the EU we put the topic of the European perspective of the Western Balkans in the first place," said Prime Minister Borissov.
He was adamant that Bulgaria has so far made every effort to integrate the countries of the Western Balkans into NATO and the EU.
In this context, Borissov recalled that it was as a result of Bulgaria's support for the European future of the Republic of North Macedonia that the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation was signed.
