The most important outcome of this election is that we will have a Parliament. I hope that this Parliament will start work sooner - to resume legislative activity and to give a sustainable solution to the political crisis by forming a consensus majority around clear policies, goals and priorities and electing a sustainable and functioning regular government, President Rumen Radev said on April 4, stressing that this depends on the parties.

In his words, the services ensured the sustainability of the electoral process, fairness and security.

"My administration is in constant contact with the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the moment the legally established procedure ends and the CEC announces the names of the MPs in the National Assembly, I will immediately issue a decree to convene the National Assembly at the first possible moment. Let us wait for the CEC's decision to be promulgated," Radev added.

He clarified that the head of state has to comply with certain time-limit procedures under the law.

"Let the National Assembly start working - this will be indicative of how the ‘roulette’ with the mandates will develop, but I urge the political parties not to waste a day, not to wait for the handing over of mandates to kick-off and then think how to form a government. This process should go ahead from today. I hope that the parties are already in dialogue in order to seek a sustainable formula for forming a regular government," Rumen Radev said.

The President noted that he was not responsible for the silence of the parties (after the April 2 elections). "It is important for the parties to unite around the adoption of the state budget. This is a primary task, as well as to adopt the draft laws of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. They have an extremely complex equation to solve. I hope that the parties have learnt their lessons. We need to think pragmatically and realistically. It will depend on the political parties in Parliament whether we will be able to join Schengen this year, whether and when Bulgaria will be ready to join the eurozone," Rumen Radev further said.

Today, April 5, the Head of State is visiting Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv. At a meeting with business representatives in the Thracian Economic Zone, the President discussed the commitment of business to vocational education, as well as the opportunities for solving the human resources challenges in the industry.
