The risks of the war in Ukraine for our region and the millions of people seeking refuge from the conflict were the focus of a telephone conversation on March 17 between Bulgaria’s Head of State Rumen Radev and President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.
The growing number of refugees from the war in Ukraine requires constant dialogue and coordination of the efforts of the Eastern European countries to deal with the migration pressure in the region, is the common position of the two presidents.
Almost 2 million people have already sought asylum in Poland since the start of hostilities, tens of thousands of other Ukrainian citizens are on the territory of neighbouring countries. That is why the countries of Eastern Europe expect timely international support for the efforts being made to accommodate them, provide them with food and medicine and educate them.
The Bulgarian Head of State extended an invitation to his Polish counterpart to visit Bulgaria in the coming days to further deepen the dialogue at the highest level, the bilateral partnership in areas of mutual interest and cooperation in the defence sector.
