According to bread producers in the region of Dobrich, North-East Bulgaria, the increase in the prices of gas will inevitably influence the end price of bread. White bread price is expected to go up by 0,05 and 0,09 BGN.
The increase in the price of natural gas will mainly affect the large bread baking factories because their production process is based on gas. Small bakeries will be less affected as they use electricity or wood.
About 70% of the bread bakers in the country use natural gas for the bread production and expect the price of bread to go up by 5 and 10%.
Many mills also use gas and this will lead to increase in the price of flour as well. The gas price hike will influence the whole process of bread production – from harvesting the grain to the packaging of the bread, bread makers commented.
