Sofia City Prosecutor's Office on May 30 proposed to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria to submit a reasoned request to the Parliament to authorize the prosecution of Boyko Borissov - former Prime Minister and MP from the 49th National Assembly.
The motion was prepared in connection with pre-trial proceedings, known in the media as "Barcelonagate", in which evidence has been gathered under Article 219 of the Criminal Procedure Code for a crime under Article 253 of the Criminal Code committed by the MP (money laundering).
From the evidence gathered in the course of the pre-trial proceedings, it can be concluded that the former Prime Minister has provided third parties with funds acquired as a result of a crime committed for the purchase and rental of real estate abroad, the Prosecutor's Office said in its announcement.
