In the early hours on September 3, the police removed protesters’ tent camps and blockades at the crossroads at Orlov Most (Eagles’ Bridge) and at Sofia University.
After remaining blocked for nearly two months, traffic has been restored.
The action of the police on lifting the camps started after 4.00 am in the morning. About 7:00 am, the last benches and wooden grills used for the blockade at Orlov Most were loaded on lorries.
At the same time, cleaning companies in the area of the so called “Triangle of Power” (situated between the Presidency, the Council of Ministers and the National Assembly in downtown Sofia) collected the broken bottles, pieces of glass, stones, tomatoes, remains from bombs from last night’s rally and used several lorries to clear them away. The most difficult to clear away proved to be the remains of eggs on the facade of the relocated National Assembly building, which necessitated the use of high-pressure steam cleaning equipment.
The tent camp of the "System Kills Us" mothers is still in front of the newly relocated Parliament building (former Communist Party house), but it no longer blocks traffic on Dondukov Boulevard. This area was also the hottest point of the protests from last night.
"The night was quite tense here. It was really scary. There were really a lot of explosive devices. There was a lot of blood, a lot of broken heads of many young people," protesting mother Dimitrina Russeva said.
"The desire of the vigilant part of the people is to have a change in this country and until that change happens. We will be here," she replied.
