The reason for the disruption is the preparations for the introduction of the euro
In preparation for the introduction of the euro, Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency has warned of temporary interruptions to the National Toll Administration’s payment systems.
From 22 December to 31 December 2025, it will not be possible to purchase vignettes via bank transfer through the National Toll Administration website (www.bgtoll.bg) or the mobile app. During this period, vignettes can still be purchased through all other channels:
Ticket offices are located at major border crossings and in all 27 regional road administrations, while there are 464 self-service terminals nationwide.
Vignettes can also be purchased from the Road Infrastructure Agency's partner network.
Route permits purchased in 2025 may only be used for travel up to 31 December 2025. Dates from 1 January 2026 onwards cannot be selected, even though the product normally allows purchase up to seven days in advance. For example, a route permit bought on 28 December 2025 can be valid for travel until 31 December 2025, but not for 1 January 2026 or later.
From 21:00 on 31 December 2025 until 02:00 on 1 January 2026, all sales channels of the National Toll Administration, as well as those of national service providers, will be temporarily unavailable. This interruption is required to perform planned technical maintenance and subsequent system checks. During this time, no payments, including cash, will be possible.
Drivers planning to travel during these periods are advised to purchase the necessary vignette or route permit in advance, keeping in mind that route permits are valid only until 31 December 2025, the agency emphasises.
