THE DAY OF BULGARIA’S CAPITAL SOFIA

On 17th of September, Bulgaria's capital celebrates St. Sofia Day - the day on which the Orthodox church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Sofia and her three daughters Faith, Hope and Love.

The official ceremony of hoisting the flag of Sofia and the blessing water ceremony, which will be held in the presence of his holiness, Bulgaria’s Patriarch Neofit, will start at 11.30. Sofia municipality will present awards for excellence in the area of culture at 18.30 in Sofia opera house.

The Museum for the History of Sofia will be officially opened in the evening on the Day of Sofia. Residents and guests of the city will have the opportunity to enjoy interactive exhibitions and digital collections, showing the cultural heritage of the city, including many artefacts.
