The US Ambassador to Bulgaria, Herro Mustafa, put the fight against corruption and the rule of law as number one priority in the work of the new government. According to her, Bulgaria should do everything possible to move up in the ranking of "Transparency without Borders" in the corruption index, where currently the country is in last place.
Mustafa also said she sees new hope in bilateral relations aimed at more investment in innovation and energy. And the partnership with America, according to the ambassador, means an investment in the future.
"What we want is a strong and energy-independent Bulgaria, because when Bulgaria is strong, we are strong. Key to the future of your country are investments in diversifying the energy mix. We will advocate for new partnerships in the energy sector to in order to avoid the dominance of one particular country in this area. This will be good for the economy as a whole and the households. A smooth transition to a carbon-free future is also needed, taking into account the social dynamics of this transition. Bulgaria has the potential to become a major energy centre in the region and an important component is the construction of the gas interconnector with Greece. I have been very supportive in this direction so far and I will continue to do so, " the US ambassador said.
