Former officer Lyuben Grigorov from Bosilegrad is the Bulgarian detained on suspicions for espionage in Serbia, BNT learned from sources in our western neighbour.
According to the sources , Lyuben Grigorov was arrested yesterday, December 4, in Bosilegrad. His house and his workplace in the local Centre for Culture were searched.
Until this morning there was an increased police presence in the area.
According to regional media reports, Grigorov was detained for 30 days on suspicions for espionage.
In Bosilegrad, Lyuben Grigorov worked as an organizer of cultural events. He led a folklore festival.
According to the sources, he had close relations with the mayor of Bosilegrad.
During the war in the former Yugoslavia he was an officer in the army, after which he went into business. From there he moved to the local cultural centre.
He often travelled to Bulgaria, where his daughter lives.
Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov confirmed that a Bulgarian citizen was detained in Serbia and charges had been brought against him. However, he did not specify what they are.
Bulgarian suspected of espionage detained in Serbia?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to request official information on the case.
