Nearly 100 decares of bushes, low vegetation and coniferous forest are engulfed in flames near the village of Iskra, Southern Bulgaria. For the second day, volunteers from the village and firefighters are trying to put out the fire.
The wild fire is burning about 100 metres away from the first houses in the village.
"Apparently, the fire started again that night. And it covered the space up the ridge. Now we are trying to contain it and extinguish it. Machines can't get there." Zhelyazko Ivanov said.
The wild fire was first reported at 5.45 pm on August 30. Firefighters went on-site and found extremely difficult terrain, and the fire had already engulfed nearly 500 decares.
"Last night we tried to get water to the top. It's very difficult, it was high and the hosepipes burst from the high pressure. We changed the hoses two or three times. We did everything manually, with branches, with shovels," Dimitar Starshanov explained.
This morning at 6.30 am a signal was reported that the fire had started again. The mayor immediately mobilized people from the village, including all employees of the forestry in Parvomay municipality.
There is no danger for people, the fire is brought under control. Trees are cut down in the forest to make clearings, and then the extinguishing will be resumed manually.
