A plane flying from Bodrum to Glasgow has made an emergency landing at Sofia airport due to a disruptive passenger on board. The emergency situation was reported to the Border Police at around 11.40pm on July 2, the Ministry of Interior said.
The plane landed unscheduled at 23.45 hours, Sofia airport informed. The man was offloaded and taken by ambulance to Military Medical Academy. The Border Police told BNT that the man had been admitted to a psychiatric clinic and the cause of his behaviour was a schizophrenia crisis.
Earlier the electronic edition of "Daily Mail" reported about the case, the initial information was that the British tourist was drunk. In a series of posts regarding the incident, the newspaper reported details focusing on the account of 52-year-old Anthony Spence, who actually managed to restrain the man from opening the door of the Jet2 low-cost airliner during the flight.
The incident happened 10 minutes after the plane took off and Anthony had to tackle the man to stop him opening the aircraft door and restrain him for about an hour, with only two of the flight attendants helping him, until the emergency landing.

The media has uploaded a video of the man being removed from the plane, who is believed to be from Glasgow. He is seen resisting the Bulgarian police officers while he was hauled off the flight and passengers screaming angry words at him.
Shortly afterwards the plane continued its flight to Glasgow.
The company later said: 'We would like to apologise to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused. As a family friendly airline, we take a zero tolerance to disruptive passenger behaviour, and everyone's health, comfort and well-being will always be our number one priority.'
Anthony Spence and his daughter, who was travelling with him, said the man should not have been allowed on board at all.
