The political consultations between the centre-right GERB and the nationalist “Ataka” parties did not take place. The talks, which were supposed to discuss the formation of government, were scheduled for 18th of October at 13.00 in the building of Parliament, but were not held. The reason was that the leader of Ataka, Volen Siderov, put a condition insisting that the meeting be open to media and be broadcast live on TV. GERB however said there was no reason to change the rules of procedure because of Ataka.
So far, the consultations between GERB with the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), The Reformist Bloc, the Patriotic Front and Bulgaria without Censorship were held behind closed doors and only the news conferences following the end of the talks were broadcast.
According to Volen Siderov, the new government will be formed by GERB with the support of the Reformist Bloc and the tacit support of MRF and Patriotic Front.
The meetings are a political PR of GERB, Siderov says. GERB want to present themselves as a constructive party. There are over 50 proposals filed by Ataka in the National Assembly’s correspondence department, but GERB rejected them, added the leader of Ataka.
