On 11th of March, Bulgaria’s Parliament voted to approve the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister, Roumyana Bachvarova, as Minister of Interior. She will replace Vesselin Vouchkov, who is leaving the post.
This is the first reshuffle in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
Vouchkov surprisingly submitted his resignation at the previous cabinet meeting on 4th of March.
The 11th of March debate in Parliament was broadcast live on BNT. 139 MPs voted in favour, 68 against and one abstained.
Before the voting, Roumyana Bachvarova said that when she was accepting the nomination, she made it with the clear conscience that the Ministry of Interior needed reforms, that it needed a policy and had sufficient capacity at professional level.
