Bulgaria hosts the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) for the first time, as well as the Meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP).
The international forum will be held from 1st to 10th of June under the patronage of Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev. Up to 500 delegates from 50 countries will attend.
On 1st of June, in a welcome address, President Plevneliev highlighted the uniqueness of the frozen continent and its importance for our planet – a place devoted to peace and science, he added.
He said that the scientific and research system in Antarctica was built in the most efficient manner, so it was open for projects in various areas, implemented by international teams and the knowledge exchange led to revolutionary discoveries.
