Bulgaria’s top tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, recorded his first win over Roger Federer in an exhibition match at the Madison Square Garden in New York as part of World Tennis Day on 10th of March.
Dimitrov won 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, rallying from a break down in the final set. Federer and Dimitrov certainly gave a show to the 20,000 spectators at BNP Paribas Showdown at MSG, but also demonstrated some great skills. The match was broadcast live on BNT HD.
Roger Federer is a 17-time Grand Slam champion.
Dimitrov’s parents were among the audience to support him, as was the opera singer Placido Domingo, who took the opportunity to meet the two tennis players personally.
After the match, Roger Federer jokingly said that if he was 10 years younger he wouldn’t have lost.
