BULGARIA’S PRESIDENT OPENED THE MONTH OF POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS

Centre-left “ABC” party shares the idea of Bulgaria’s President, Rosen Plevneliev, for holding a referendum on voting rules at the same time as the local government elections in the autumn of 2015. This emerged after the meeting between President Plevneliev and the leadership of the parliamentary group of ABC party on 23rd of February, when Bulgaria’s President Plevneliev opened the month of political consultations with the parties and coalitions represented in Bulgaria’s Parliament.

The President proposes five main topics to be discussed at the 2015 round of political consultations: key reforms, which are in the 2015 agenda; referendum and election legislation; international and regional security; defence and armed forces; crises and natural disaters.

According to ABC party, the reforms should not be partial, but in all areas. In their opinion, a priority should be the judicial system reform, which would also require amendments to the constitution. ABC party representatives insist on changes in the constitution which will enlarge the powers of the President.

The nationalist “Ataka” party refused to participate in the consultations. The leadership of the party, led by Volen Siderov went in front of the Presidency to explain to journalists that their views contradicted to the views of the Bulgarian President and they saw no point in these consultations.
