Torrential rains, snow and strong winds are expected on 9th of December. Code Orange alert for potentially hazardous weather was issued for the districts of Yambol, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan in South Bulgaria. At places the rainfall is expected to reach 40 litres per square metre.
The intense rainfall and high soil moisture are expected to cause increase of the river levels all over the country. Tundzha river and Kamchia river are on flood watch as their levels are expected to remain critical. The outlook suggests an increased risk of flash flooding. An order was issued for continuous monitoring of the dams and rivers in the district of Blagoevgrad in South-West of Bulgaria.
Currently, the levels of Struma and Mesta rivers have slightly increased. Code Yellow alert was issued for snow and ice for the districts of Montana, Vratsa, Sofia, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Targovishte and Razgrad in the Northern Bulgaria. Code Yellow for strong winds remains in place for Dobrich, Varna and Bourgas in the Eastern part of the country.
