According to data and forecasts of Bulgaria’s National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, Code Red flood alert has been issued for Maritsa River in its section near the town of Svilengrad in the sooth Bulgaria and for Tundzha river in the section near the town of Elhovo in the South-East of Bulgaria, the press office of the Ministry of Environment and Waters announced.
On 5th of December, some areas of Bulgaria are expected to see light rain, between 1-5 litres/sq.m.of rainfall. In the evening, rain is expected to start falling in the South-West of Bulgaria. The expected rainfall is between 5-10 litres/sq.m and up to 15 litres/sq.m. locally.
On 6th of December, more rain is predicted for the whole country. The expected rainfall in the West of Bulgaria is 5-20 litres/sq. m., in Central Bulgaria - 15-25 litres/sq.m., locally up tp 30-40 litres/sq.m. and 3-10 litres/sq.m. in the East of Bulgaria.
On 7th of December, the rain from the west is expected to ease off and stop until the evening, but more wet weather is forecast for larger part of the country. Between 3-10 litres/per sq.m. of rainfall is expected for the West of Bulgaria and 10-20 litres/sq. m. of rainfall in the East.
