The cost of repairing the damages caused by the summer floods is almost € 400 million, Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Vesselin Vuchkov said in Parliament during a parliamentary control session on 23rd of January.
Damage assessment shows that the cost for the first wave of flooding is € 311, 328, 446 and € 79, 344, 220 for the second wave.
Two applications have been submitted by Bulgaria, requesting EU financial assistance for the flood affected areas. The amount of proposed aid is € 10, 542,110. It has been calculated based on Brussels methods and is subject to approval, Vuchkov said.
In June and in August 2014, some areas in Bulgaria were affected by intense and heavy rainfall leading to serious flooding and many casualties.
