Archeologists have discovered an episcopal basilica during excavations in the ancient city of Zaldapa, which was the largest ancient fortified centre located in the region of Dobruzha in the North-East of Bulgaria. The fortress is known as Dobrudzha Pompeii. Karel Škorpil is among the first archeologists to do some research in the region.
The early Christian basilica had three naves and its size was impressive. It was 37 m long and 21 m wide. Archeologists say it is commensurate to the biggest Christian temples in Odesos, Istria and Tomi.
